The Second Week in Advent(Two candles are lit.) All: Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world, he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." Child: Why do we light two candles? Leader: The first candle reminds us of the promise God made to His people long ago. The Second Candle reminds us of Joseph and Mary traveling to Bethlehem and searching for a room to spend the night. Let us remember to make room for the needs of others. (The leader or family member then reads about the search of Joseph and Mary for a place to spend the night in Luke 2:1-7. Then the leader reads the following poem.) Let not our hearts be busy innsThat have no room for Thee. But cradles for the livingChrist and His nativity.Oh, lest we starve and lest we dieIn our stupidity,Oh come, Christ Child, withinAnd share our hospitality. All sing or say: O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth, The everlasting light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. If building a crèche scene throughout the Advent Season, the animals (including the sheep) are added to the stable as shown below.
