The Third Week in Advent
(Three candles are lit.)

All:

Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world, he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." week 3
Child: Why do we light three candles?
Leader:

The first candle reminds us of the promises God made to His people long ago. The second candle reminds us to needs of others. The third candle reminds us of the announcement to the shepherds in the field when Jesus was born.
(The leader then reads the story of the shepherd's search for the newborn Christ. Luke 2:8-20)

All sing or say:

The first noel, the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
in fields as the lay.
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep,
Noel, noel, noel, noel;
Born is the King of Israel.

Leader:

Dear God, we thank you for your gift of Jesus to the whole world. As the shepherds found Jesus in a manger, may we find Jesus in the Love and joy that we share together. Help us to do our share to bring happiness, goodness and peace to the world.
Amen

If building a crèche scene throughout the Advent season, Mary, Joseph and the donkey are added to the stable as shown below.
