The Fourth Week in Advent
(All four candles are lit by the leader.)

All:

Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world, he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." week 4
Child: Why do we light four candles?
Leader:

The first candle reminds us of the promises God made to His people long ago. The second candle reminds us to make room for the needs of others. The third candle reminds us of the announcement to the shepherds in the field of the birth of Jesus. The fourth candle reminds us of the stars in the sky which guided the wisemen to Jesus and which keeps watch over us by night.
(The leader or family member then read the story of the birth of Jesus in Matthew 1:18-2:18)
All sing or say:

We three kings of Orient are;
Bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
O, Star of wonder, star of night,
Star of Royal beauty bright.
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light.
Leader:

The King of Glory comes to dwell with us, and we thank you, God, Our Father for this gift, which is the best one of all. May we too be wisemen and search for Jesus always. When we think of Christmas we think of love and lights and happy times, but most of all we think of Jesus. Help us to live the way He teaches us.  Amen.

If building a crèche scene throughout the Advent season, the shepards (plus the sheep) are added to the stable as shown below.
The three wise men are placed in the scene at Epiphany on January 6th
